|a Event planner Sonjia Waller Young was born Sonjia Amar on October 6, 1941 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Young attended St. Francis Xavier School, McKinley High School, graduating from Southern High School in 1959. She earned her B.A., B.S. and a M.A. degrees in educational counseling from Southern University. At seventeen, Young modeled with Ebony Fashion Fair. In 1970, she married Dr. Walter Young, the brother of Mayor Andrew Young, moving to Atlanta, Georgia where she worked as a teacher and counselor at Atlanta Junior College, Clark Atlanta University and Georgia State University. In 1982, she founded Eventions, Inc., which became one of the top event planning/communications companies in the Southeast. Its client base included The Coca-Cola Company, Coors Brewing Company, Oprah Winfrey, Muhammad Ali and Dick Gregory. Young was the recipient of numerous awards including the Atlanta Business League's "Diamond Award" and Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine's "Salute to Black Business Owners Award.".
