Fornay attended the Wilfred Academy of Beauty and Hair Design, the City College of New York, and the State University of New York's Fashion Institute of Technology. He worked as a beauty editor for several magazines, including Elan, Essence, and Ebony. In 1985, he was Ebony Man's first editor in chief. He was the creative director for Revlon's "Polished Ambers" collection and as a consultant with Fashion Fair Cosmetics.
