|a Fashion designer Etu Evans was born on February 2, 1969, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He graduated from South Carolina State University with a degree in social work in 1992. Evans established the design company Etu Evans in 1993, focusing on jewelry and hats. In 1996, Evans earned his M.S. degree in applied behavioral science from Columbia University. He moved to Europe and worked as a behavioral therapist. Evans soon left that position to concentrate on design. The scope of Etu Evans broadened, and Evans became known for his shoe designs. His designs have been featured at New York's Fashion Week and have been worn by such celebrities as Halle Berry, Erykah Badu and Beyonce Knowles. In 1998, Evans founded the Solesville Foundation, which has collected, repaired, and redistributed used shoes. He was honored for his philanthropy.
