Summary:Biologist and academic administrator Luther Williams was born on August 19, 1940. Williams earned his B.S. degree from Miles College in 1961, his M.S. degree from Atlanta University in 1963, and his Ph.D. in microbiology from Purdue University in 1968. Williams continued to conduct his research at Purdue University on the cellular regulation of aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases, and he was named a full professor of biology in 1979. In 1984, he was named the president of Atlanta University, a position he held for three years. He later served as the deputy director of the National Institute of General Medical Science of the National Institutes of Health, and the assistant director of education and human resources at the National Science Foundation. In 2006, Williams joined the faculty of Tuskegee University as the vice president of academic affairs. He was subsequently promoted to provost and vice president of Tuskegee University in 2010.
