Summary: | Physicist Donnell Thaddeus Walton was born on November 8, 1966 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He was one of two children born to Antoinette Williams. Walton graduated from North Carolina State University with his B.S. degrees in physics and electrical engineering in 1989. Donnell attended the University of Michigan, studied under Dr. Herbert Winful and graduated with his Ph.D. degree in applied physics in 1996. Walton joined the Physics faculty at Howard University where he won the NSF CAREER award before joining the Science and Technology Division of Corning Incorporated in 1999. In 2008, Walton joined Corning's Gorilla Glass team where he worked with customers to extend the market beyond phones. In 2010, Walton was named manager of the Worldwide Applications Department at Corning. He authored fifteen patents and over sixty technical papers in journals including Optics Letters. In 2013, Walton received the "Outstanding Technical Contribution to Industry Award" from U.S. Black Engineer.
