Summary:Speechwriter Terry Edmonds was born on September 9, 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland. Edmonds graduated from Morgan State University with his B.A. degree in English in 1973. After working for many years in public relations, U.S. Representative Kweisi Mfume hired Edmonds as a press secretary in 1988. Edmonds then went on to work in public relations for companies such as Macro Systems, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the University Research Corporation, and R.O.W. Sciences. He was then hired as a speechwriter for President William J. Clinton in 1995, making him the first African American speechwriter for a U.S. President. In 1999, he was promoted to the director of speechwriting and assistant to the president. Edmonds then went on to work as a speechwriter for Time Warner, Inc., the Corporation for National and Community Service and NASA. He was also appointed as associate vice president and editorial director of Columbia University.
