Summary:Healthcare executive Lloyd Dean was born in June 1950, in Alabama, and grew up in Muskegon, Michigan. His father was a foundry worker and his mother was a homemaker. In 1969, Dean enrolled at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he earned his B.S. and M.A. degrees in sociology and education, respectively. Between 1972 and 1978, Dean worked as a junior high school teacher, taught communications courses at Western Michigan University, and served as a news anchor for WOTV in Battle Creek, Michigan. From 1978 to 1990, Dean worked at Upjohn Company, where he rose from assistant regional manager in the health care services division to executive vice president of marketing and operations for the entire company before moving to Illinois. In 2000, Dean was recruited to join Catholic Healthcare West, now known as Dignity Health, where he has served as Dignity Health's president and chief executive officer.
