Summary: | Automobile dealer Perry Watson III was born on April 16, 1951 in South Bend, Indiana. He received his B.B.A. degree in marketing in 1973 from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, also earning his M.B.A. degree in marketing there in 1976. In 1977, he joined the Xerox Corporation, where he served over thirteen years in various roles, including regional sales manager, through 1990. In 1990, he entered the Chrysler Corporation Minority Dealer Training program, graduating in 1993. That year, Watson was selected to operate the Brookdale Dodge franchise as his first dealership in Brooklyn Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and served in this role for nine years. In 2001, Watson became the third African-American in the nation and the first African-American in Indiana to own a Lexus dealership, Lexus of Mishawaka. He was chairman emeritus of the National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers (NAMAD), and served as treasurer of Toyota Lexus Minority Owners Dealership Association (TLMODA).
