This volume is an excellent introduction to the relationship between human sexuality and AIDS. Contributions from experts in medicine, sexuality, psychology, and other behavioral sciences emphasize the importance of collaboration between the biomedical research community and the behavioral sciences professions to limit the spread of AIDS. The editors assert that controlling the disease requires an alteration in sexual behavior that can be accomplished only if basic, accurate, and reliable data exist. Chapters cover, among other topics, information on preventive measures (including the role of condoms and other barriers) and modes of transmission, with individual chapters devoted to IV drug use, oral sex, and heterosexual anal intercourse as risk factors for AIDS. A more comprehensive understanding of the reciprocal relationship between human sexuality and HIV infection would be provided if coverage had included perspectives of the Hispanic community, risk of AIDS among gay youth, and bisexuality. This book, however, is an important first step in acquiring knowledge about behavior and risk for HIV infection. Highly recommended for all libraries.-J. M. Howe, VA Medical Library, San Francisco
