Wetlands represents the contributions of 11 different authors, with their "chapters" brought together by editor Williams, a geographer. For North American readers, it will be hard to associate with examples given as they are predominantly British in this British publication. Primary emphases are related to biogeographical, sociological, and cultural issues rather than biological or even, to any great degree, ecological. Although the text makes reasonably good reading, and is carefully edited, well organized, and with fairly extensive references, it offers little if anything new, either in information or insight. It is difficult to determine the audience for whom this book is intended, although biogeographers, environmental studies students, and those interested in wetlands preservation might find it interesting and useful. -T.
