Though the topic of the continuing population make-up in the United States is not new, an update of current patterns is required. Frey (Brookings) filled the gap with this publication, which is not only refreshing and welcome but contains profound explanations of the inevitable demographic transformations that are yet to come. Frey's analysis is solidly backed by statistical facts derived from the latest Census counts. Unexpected surprises are found in the pages of this important contribution. Noteworthy is the chapter dealing with future presidential results that will frame a different and irreversible America. It will be younger, less white, and certainly more balanced in its diversification among different ethnic groups. Geographically, too, the varied population will be found dispersed among a greater number of areas within the country. Moreover, these distributions will also be located in significantly increasing numbers in suburban communities. This edition explains the significant importance of the forthcoming dynamic population shift in the country.
