Summary:"Providing the most complete record possible of texts by Italian writers active after 1900, this annotated bibliography covers over 4,800 distinct editions of writings by some 1,700 Italian authors. Many entries are accompanied by useful notes that provide information on the authors, works, translators, and the reception of the translations. This book includes the works of Pirandello, Calvino, Eco, and more recently, Andrea Camilleri and Valerio Manfredi. Together with Robin Healey's Italian Literature before 1900 in English Translation, also published by University of Toronto Press in 2011, this volume makes comprehensive information on translations from Italian accessible for schools, libraries, and those interested in comparative literature."--

This extensive tome updates and replaces Twentieth-Century Italian Literature in English Translation (CH, Oct'99, 37-0658) and complements Italian Literature before 1900 in English Translation (2011), both also by Healey (emer., Univ. of Toronto Library). Benefiting from technological advances in research over the past few decades, this update includes editions not listed in the original volume, as well as extensive coverage of translations of new and older Italian works published between 1998 and 2016. The 4,835 entries are listed by year of publication, in alphabetical order by the author of the original work, and include notes of varying length (notes may cover author and translator biographies, summaries of and contemporaneous reviews of the works, translation and publication histories, stage and screen adaptations, and details on physical format and illustration). The indexes by author, title, translator, editor, artist/illustrator, publisher, periodical, and series make this volume an indispensable tool for advanced researchers in Italian literature and translation studies. Summing Up: Essential. Graduate students, researchers, faculty. --Jennifer L Newman, Hunter College, City University of New York
