Vooral de Duitse expressionisten moesten het ontgelden. Met hun ongekunstelde beelden refereerden zij aan de oerkunst waar het gevoel regeert. Dit boek toont en beschrijft een bijzondere en betrekkelijk onbekende verzameling van wereldberoemde Duitse expressionisten, waaronder Brücke-kunstenaars Emil Nolde, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel en Otto Mueller en de leden van 'Der Blaue Reiter': Wassily Kandinsky, Alexej von Jawlensky, Franz Marc en August Macke.
