Summary:The Trojan War is the subject of Homer's Iliad, but there have also been 'alternative accounts' handed down since Antiquity. The Latin authors Dictys and Dares claimed to offer eyewitness accounts, asserting that they provided an authentic version of history. Since the Iliad was not read during the Middle Ages due to the poor knowledge of Greek, these two works have taken on a major significance for the reception of the events.
