Summary:The Łódź Ghetto Chronicle was written by the staff of the Archives Department of the Judenrat. It was founded by Chaim Rumkowski in November 1940. Between 12 January 1941 and 1 September 1942 the Chronicle was written in Polish; in September-December 1942 the documents were written in German or Polish - the German documents appear here with a Polish translation. The Chronicle contains information about daily life in the ghetto and about the activities of various departments of the Judenrat. The Chronicle was "censored" by its authors, because they could not write critically about Rumkowski. Publication of the rest of the Chronicle, dated January 1943-July 1944 (written in German), was cancelled by the Polish authorities due to the antisemitism of the late 1960s. Includes photographs.
