Summary:	Presents the balance sheet of an Ottoman historian's productive curiosity and meticulous research into different periods and different subjects. In the articles in this book, Edhem Eldem looks at Turkish history, from the generally accepted interpretations of a painting, to the preferences of an Ottoman bureaucrat when describing his own life story. Eldem questions a series of myths about Ottoman history from the fate of the Janissaries' tombs to a plagiarism at the beginning of the 19th century, as well as offering general and specific methods of writing the Ottoman history.
