Summary:"Have attended Mr. Riddell's lecture on "The New Man," of which this book is an enlarged version. It Is uniformly conceded to be the most refined, instructive and inspiring lecture on the subject of man's creative forces before the public. It was published at the request of thousands of professional men and is being circulated for the good It may do"--Publicity materials. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved).
"It was with great hesitancy that I first complied with the request of hundreds of men and permitted the publication of "The New Man." An address cannot be put in type. One-half of a speech, both in the meaning of what is said and its influence upon the hearer, is in the occasion, the manner of the speaker, the tone of his voice and the spirit that inspires him, none of which can be transferred to the printed page. What is perfectly appropriate and truly helpful in an address may seem improper and even harmful when put in print. It was because of this fact that I hesitated. But now that thousands of noble souls have written us bearing grateful testimony of the inspiration and helpfulness derived from the printed page, it gives me great joy and gratitude to issue this revised and enlarged edition and send it out on its mission of love. My heart and prayer goes with the little messenger that the Spirit that inspired it may also interpret it to the hearts of others. I hope to be able to distribute a million copies of "The New Man" gratuitously, and invite the cooperation of all who are interested in the dissemination of its message"--Preface.
