Summary:Lawyer and entertainment manager Chaz Ebert was born on October 15, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois to Johnnie Hobbs Hammel and Wiley Hammel, Sr. She earned her B.A. degree at the University of Dubuque, and her M.A. degree at University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Ebert went on to receive her J.D. degree from DePaul University College of Law. In 1977, she became a litigator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and later joined the litigation department at the Chicago law firm of Bell Boyd and Lloyd LLP. Ebert then worked for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for several years. After meeting her future husband, Roger Ebert, in 1989, she became vice president of his company, Ebert Company Ltd., one year later. In 2002, Ebert began publishing rogerebert.com, an online magazine of film reviews. Following her husband's death, Ebert continued to write for his blog, and worked on the documentary of his life called, Life Itself.
