This book addresses important strategies in teaching and learning today. It provides background, theory, and concrete examples for developing "super courses" that will foster a natural critical learning environment. The discussion is organized into two parts. Part 1 ("The Idea") examines the historical learning environment, focusing on some of the latest information on how people learn and how technology can help develop and implement a "super course." Some ideas presented have been part of modern Adult Learning Theory, but this book offers a more practical, deeper, and more focused discussion of the topic. Part 2 ("The Courses") outlines essential elements of the "super courses" presented and will help orient and focus readers on theory and practice. The "super courses" discussed are examples of courses that can be developed, accompanied by sample syllabi. Written by award-winning teacher and writer Ken Bain and his collaborator, Marsha Marshall Bain (both, Best Teachers Institute), this book can help change how education is viewed, practiced, and implemented. It will interest teachers, professors, and researchers at all levels, particularly those conducting research in education, sociology, and psychology. Summing Up: Recommended. Graduate students, faculty, and professionals. --William C. Hine, emeritus, Eastern Illinois University
