Writer Anaya and professor Lomelí (Univ. of California, Santa Barbara) published the landmark first edition of this book in 1989. In this newly revised and expanded edition, they added a new editor, Enrique Lamadrid (emer., Univ. of New Mexico), and eight new chapters. The aim of the first edition was to bring attention to the variety of writings by scholars and writers on the concept of Aztlán. Likewise, in this revised edition they continue on the same path, defining Aztlán by reexploring, reexplaining, and redefining the concept of the homeland in Chicana/o history. Twenty chapters are grouped in four parts: "Aztlán as Myth and Historical Conscience," "Historicizing the Dialectics of Aztlán," "Redefining Aztlán as a Discursive Concept," and "Comparative Applications of Aztlán." A key addition to Chicana/o studies, especially in the fields of literature, history, and visual art and culture. Summing Up: Highly recommended. All academic levels/libraries. --Luis H Moreno, Bowling Green State University
