Consisting of 21 articles on alcohol consumption (most previously published), this collection offers information on demographic drinking patterns, problems, changes, and attitudes; differences between types of drinkers--abstainers, lighter, moderate, and heavier drinkers; drinking contexts; regional diversities; analyses of the 1964 and 1984 National Surveys of Alcohol Use; and invaluable assessments of Hispanic and African American drinking populations. Although the text is rich in discussions of quantitative findings and analyses, the bibliographic citations are dated. There is also a conspicuous absence of contributions from several ^D["giants^D]" in the field of alcohol consumption research, e.g., David Pittman, Helene Raskin-White, Alexander Wagenaar, Ruth C. Engs, and David Rudy. Tables, comprehensive list of references, above-average index. Graduate level.
