Focused on Korean Buddhism during the Unified Silla Period (670-935 CE), this volume consists of English translations of five important articles dealing with the assimilation of Buddhism into Korean culture. It is a continuation of, and supplement to, the editors' earlier Introduction of Buddhism to Korea: New Cultural Patterns (1989). The articles included represent some of the best of Korean and Japanese scholarship on Korean Buddhism. Beginning with a survey of Buddhism in the Unified Silla, the volume continues with chapters on Pure Land and Son (Korean Zen). More philosophical studies of the thought of Wonhyo and Korean studies of Yog=ac=ara complete the work. This is a rich volume which should be of value to a wide audience. The survey would be of use to advanced undergraduates, while scholars will discover much that is new, especially in the more philosophical materials and regarding Pure Land in Korea. Recommended for Asian studies collections and larger academic libraries.-J. P. McDermott, Canisius College
