Summary:"As a deputy of two monarchs, Prinzregent Luitpold (1821-1912) steered the Kingdom of Bavaria over more than a quarter of a century - and thus longer than anyone else. This had not been planned: only after the prince had completed a good military career, he, almost at retirement age, was suddenly, unexpectedly and under dramatic circumstances in government. Contrary to all expectations he managed to reinvigorate the monarchy. The epoch characterized by its charismatic personality, the Prinzregentzeit (1886-1912) is inextricably linked to his name."--
