Review by Kirkus Book Review

Archelon is an archetypal giant sea turtle who surfaces ""one night in that ancient world of yesterday,"" survives a battle with Tylosaurus in seas covering the present Dakota Badlands, and lives to see a time when ""the sea seemed emptier somehow"" and earthquakes push the Rocky Mountains up through the water. The bluelit Disneyesque prehistoric landscape does project a certain eeriness, but the insistently poetic mood may leave children confused about whether Archelon's longevity is real or symbolic.
