|a "This is the first of three comprehensive volumes that gather, for the first time in English, the writings of Japanese sculptor and performance artist Kishio Suga (born 1944). Suga is known for his site-specific installations and his role as a founding member of the Mono-ha art movement, which radically redefined postwar Japanese art through its ephemeral interventions into both institutional and everyday spaces. This publication features Suga's three formative texts written between 1968 and 1969 under the pen name Katsuragawa Sei; fragmentary statements published in the exhibition listings section of the magazine Bijutsu Techō from 1972 to 1981; and essays by Suga spanning the 1970s. Also included is Andrew Maerkle's analysis of the theoretical implications of translating Suga and an essay by Ashley Rawlings which addresses the history of the translation of Suga's artwork titles. Illustrations of Suga's works appear throughout." --
