Summary:The Plumpton's were a dominant northern family whose documents, which continue through to the early sixteenth century, iluminate the social and economic affairs of the region. These letters are in fact seventeenth-century copies of the original medieval manuscripts, which no longer exist. The bulk of the correspondence is contained in Sir Edward Plumpton's letterbook.
