|a The contemporary context of the problems confronting the Lutheran news and its adherents in 1964 -- The social factors involved in the origins of the "traditionalist" movement within the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and its sister synods within the synodical conference -- The "theological" factors concerning the origins of the traditionalist movement within the LC-MS -- The Lutheran news as a self-appointed spokesman for the Lutheran traditionalists in 1964, saw "atheistic communism" as a common source for all its troubles -- The anti-communist stance of the Lutheran news reveals that the entire publication has the character of a religio-political ideology -- The ideological character of Lutheran news as a partner in the anti-communist crusade was possible only because at certain crucial points in its theological system the movement had compromised certain vital principles of Lutheran theology.
