This 117th volume in the "World Bibliographical Series" provides an excellent nucleus of references to the small South American country Suriname. The format, 26 different subject sections, follows earlier volumes. Topics range from the arts to women's studies with most of the references on history, population, and different languages. There are 731 different entries including journal articles, books, dissertations, and papers. Although most references are to sources in English, a substantial number of references are to works written in Dutch, German, Spanish, and French. Most references are for works published from 1970 to 1990; however, there are several references to older, standard works. Each reference has been carefully selected and the abstract, in English, is concise and well written. Supplemental to the bibliography are an informative introduction, a map of Suriname, and an author/title/subject index. Many sources will not be readily available; however, the bibliography will identify works for interlibrary loan. The compiler states that the intended audience is international. This bibliography is highly recommended, especially for libraries with strong collections in Latin American studies. -K. Y. Stabler, New Mexico State University
