This comprehensive and descriptive study of household consumption constitutes a compendium of relevant economic theory and models (i.e., an economic analysis of household consumption). Those who believe that economics is the appropriate discipline for marketing and the basis for financial studies will welcome this thorough work. Human capital is included in sections on wealth, resource ownership, and quality of human resources. Some will be disappointed by a lack of any discussion on the complementary, and sometimes, substitute relationshp between consumption and investment; also, there is no direct discussion of the effect of investment in human capital on present and future consumption patterns. Sections include concepts, theories, and empirical measurement; patterns and trends in household consumption; and household consumption in the social context. An excellent, single-source reference on the economics of household consumption. Authors assume readers to have ^D["a prior understanding of microeconomic theory and statistics.^D]" Appropriate for upper-division undergraduate and graduate collections.
