Synod of New Jersey; also known as New Jersey Synod; erected 1823 by the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. as a split of the Synod of New York and New Jersey; in 1838 a New School faction broke away and merged in 1840 into the New School Synod of New York and New Jersey, while Old School group continued current name.Bboth factions rejoined and reconstituted in 1870 into the Synod of New Jersey; continued by the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. after 1958; became part of the Synod of the Northeast in 1973.
