Synod of Kentucky; also known as Kentucky Synod; erected in Kentucky by Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. in 1802; during the schism, a New School faction broke away in 1838 but rejoined the Old School in 1859; a portion of the reunited body withdrew in 1866 to become the independent Synod of Kentucky (1866-1869), which subsequently joined the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.; the Old School remainder was continued by the reunited church after 1870 and by the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. after 1958; it became part of the Synod of the Covenant in 1973.
