Summary:	This book brings together 118 of the great hymns of the Christian Church, selected by the Commission on Music of the Department of Worship and the Arts of the National Council of Churches. Under the over-all editorship of Luther Noss, Dean of the School of Music of Yale University, Christian Hymns provides full texts, musical scores, and notes on both words and music -- all in a handsome and practical format. Hymns of all of the important and historic Christian traditions -- Greek, Latin, German, French, and English, among others -- are included, and all of the outstanding poets and composers are represented by at least one example of their work. Original versions of texts and tunes are used wherever possible. Christian Hymns offers access to a broader view of Christian hymnody than can ordinarily be gained from most hymn books.
