Summary:"Although the role of the Spirit in the Gospel of Luke and in the Gospel of John has attracted extensive scholarly attention, until now little has been published concerning pneumatology in Mark. With the appearance of this study, Dr. Mansfield has made a significant contribution toward filling that void--a provocative and foundational work that is sure to open new doors in Markan studies and to lead to additional fruitful discussion concerning pneumatology in Mark's Gospel. By utilizing a 'multi-methodological' approach that draws on the newer methodologies--literary, rhetorical, and reader-response criticisms--as specialized supplements to form and redaction criticisms, Dr. Mansfield provides fresh insights into the structure and meaning of Mark's Gospel and shows that the role of the Spirit is more extensive and prominent in the Gospel than has been recognized previously." --
