After tracing the roots of the first 12-step recovery program (Alcoholics Anonymous) in the late-nineteenth-century Oxford Movement-- which aimed to encourage a continual process of conversion among Christians--Morreim begins to fill out the Christian and Biblical basis of the 12-step process of recovery. Working from Christian understanding of the human condition, and from the view that God has a significant investment in the health and well-being (salvation) of each individual, the author offers biblical reflections on various stages in the process of conversion, insightfully showing the "bridges" between this type of religious conversion and the type of moral conversion expected from following the 12-step process. This book is directed toward those involved in 12-step programs who are interested in finding a Christian connection. For larger collections. --Sheila McGinn-Moorer
