A collection of 35 papers from a conference on radiocarbon dating honoring Willard Frank Libby, a 1960 Nobel Prize recipient, for the development of the radiocarbon method. The papers present up-to-date research-level information on a wide variety of topics, subdivided into historical perspective, natural carbon cycle, instrumental and sample preparation, hydrology, Old World archaeology, earth sciences, environmental sciences, and biomedical sciences. Almost every paper is followed by a list of citations appropriate for its research level. The index is of minimal use. The collection, for the most part, is a compilation of much of what was then current research in the field, and is, therefore, of use primarily to specialists working in the field, or to students interested in broadening their detailed knowledge of radiocarbon dating. A major consideration is that, after so much thanking of organizations for support, the book's price still is high. Yet that is what research materials cost. Recommended for relevant collections with active research programs. Advanced undergraduate through faculty. J. W. Green; University of South Carolina at Spartanburg
