Item Description: | Cataloged from volume 4 cover. Signed as Sugimura Kōtarō with Sojinkan red stamp below his signature in colophon. Sugimura Sojinkan is his pen name. Chosakuken shoyū printed in colophon in each volume. Itō Chūta is an architect. During the WW I, he made 500 woodcut prints caricature cartoons for his own amusement. Had no intention of publishing these prints but when he showed to his friend Arashida Eisuke, the owner of Kokusui shuppansha, he highly recommended publishing these prints. Sugimura, who was a newspaper reporter, gathered well-known people to write a comment on each of his prints. |
