This very readable and informative book on economic indicators updates the first edition (CH, Apr'05, 42-4750). Novices will not be put off by any incomprehensible jargon, and seasoned veterans can learn a thing or two. Baumohl clearly explains the details of economic indicators--when they are released, where they can be found, how they are obtained, how prescient they are, and whether or not they will be revised. Best of all, he explains the relevance of these seemingly mundane numbers and why their release can rock financial markets at home and abroad. The first two chapters introduce beginners to the value of economic indicators and some important terms. Chapter 3 covers US economic indicators. The details of each indicator are presented, and the significance of each is explained. Baumohl presents a sample release and points out where specific information can be found within the release. Chapter 4 focuses on international economic indicators. Chapters 5 and 6 list the "best Web sites" for US and international economic indicators, organized by topics. The reader can look up a topic, such as the US dollar, and see all the Web sites that report related data. Summing Up: Highly recommended. General readers; all levels of students; researchers and practitioners. E. Kacapyr Ithaca College
