Summary:The last in a four-part adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's feisty and passionate story, set across the social divides in the changing world of Victorian industrial society. Thornton proves himself to be a philanthropic master. Margaret's father dies and she goes to London to live with her aunt; she is genuinely upset to leave Milton. Passions simmer but events continue to conspire against them. Thornton is in debt and the mill in financial difficulty. He learns that Frederick was Margaret's brother, not lover. Margaret inherits her godfather's fortune, including ownership of the mill, therefore becoming Thornton's landlady. She returns to Milton to offer him a loan. They meet halfway, as Thornton was travelling to see Margaret, and finally acknowledge their love for one another.
Awards:Nominated 2005 BAFTA TV Award, Best Production Design
