Provenance: | Former owner's inscription: Andrew Phillipps his book July the 10th 1679. Former owner Andrew Phillipps's inscription of Latin and English epigrams on front pastedown and flyleaf. Former owner's inscription, unsigned but almost certainly by John Trotter (d. 1718), whose similar inscriptions of provenance appear on a number of books he purchased between the 1690s and 1707: "Cost a sh. at Bullord's auction in Toms Coffee house London 10. Feb. 1699." Trotter family armorial bookplate with motto: In promptu. Binding: Speckled calf over boards with blind-tooled paneling; 4 raised bands; red sprinkled edges.
