Summary:We have always been fascinated by what lies beneath our feet. Some cultures have feared the underworlds, while others have believed that the earth houses our ancestors. The caves dwellings were referred to as the "Sassi", which literally means the stones. Farmers and shepherds carved out little homes in the rocks of the mountain. What was once the site of a mountain is now a city. Not built, but chiseled into perfection. Archeologists have described these "Sassi" as life in harmony with the ecosystem.
