Summary: | It is fifth century Britain and the last Roman legion has left the country. The land is in leaderless chaos. After years of danger, Merlin at last brings the young Prince Arthur to the moment of his Coronation as King of All Britain. The done, all Merlin want is to return to his home village of Maridunum. With Ralf, his faithful servant and bodyguard, he rides off through the mountains. As they travel, they recall the years of strife that have brought them to that day ... The boy Merlin, as a Prince at the Court of his grandfather, King Dafydd of South Wales, is in constant danger. His mother, Ninianne, is in disgrace, with his father unknown, rumoured to be the devil; his boyhood has been lonely, supported only by his Saxon servant, Cerdic. One day he follows the trail of a Merlin bird up into the hills and there finds a cave in the mountainside full of mystical drawings and scientific artefacts. From this cave he climbs up into another more magical cave - glittering with crystals and glowing lights. This is the Crystal Cave. But while he is there he finds himself trapped by the arrival below of a menacing, wild figure ...
