Summary:Imagine a small furry creature, thousands of years old, very grumpy, very vain, but able to make your wildest dreams come true. 'It' is a sand fairy or 'psammead', who lives in a gravel pit and was sleeping happily until disturbed. The children are allowed one wish a day, but sensible wishes aren't always easy to think of and sometimes things don't go according to plan.
