Sanford uses his own experience as a springboard for this discussion about the relationship between God and personal illness. Does God send illness as a punishment? Is it fate? Sanford uses Jungian psychology and stories from the gospels to present some compelling and surprising answers, written clearly and comfortingly. The distinction between the ego and the "real self" is brought out as he discusses physical and spiritual health and the role of faith and knowledge in healing. He concludes with a Christian perspective on the psychology of healing. The book is recommended for anyone who has been ill or works in the healing practices; it may also be valuable for the chronically ill and their families. ~--Mary Deeley
