A concise study of the IMF giving background and a chronology of the organization. The major body of the work is an extensive and well-annotated bibliography primarily of English-language books, articles, theses, pamphlets, directories, databases, and articles appearing in the more important economic and financial journals. Three indexes--author (personal and corporate), title, and subject--make locating entries relatively easy. The emphasis throughout rests on material about the organization, rather than on the IMF's own publications. An obvious effort was made to give varying opinions, flattering as well as critical, of the organization. Prior studies of the IMF are either quite short (some are dated), or they treat the organization and a specific country or group of countries. This work partially updates and enlarges the author's The International Monetary Fund: A Selected Bibliography (1974/75- , reprinted from IMF Staff Papers), which included citations to major studies of the IMF at that time. Since this appears to be the first comprehensive annotated bibliography in English about the IMF, students in international business and finance, economics, and politics will find it of special interest and a valuable reference tool for further research.
