This volume presents a great deal of information on issues women face working in organizations. The writing style is academic, with frequent reference to research from many disciplines. Geared to educated readers and academic audiences, the book focuses on how work environments may make it more difficult for women to succeed. The authors present different ways of responding to and, at times, overcoming workplace difficulties. Coverage includes material on stereotypes, communication, power, leadership, and management style. Although none of this material is new, presenting it in one source is useful, particularly for use as a college text. The last part of the book contains a number of cases in which professional women face specific work-related problems and hurdles. For each case, the authors suggest several coping strategies. These cases are very well done and could be helpful not only to women but also to men facing similar problems in their working lives. Extensive, appropriate list of references. General and academic readers, advanced undergraduate through professional.
