Cox (Catholic Univ.) offers a descriptive rather than an in-depth analytical look at community-based social and health care programs currently serving the frail elderly. In nine chapters, the author discusses the nature and characteristics of frailty; risk factors; the difficulty of defining frailty by assessing physical and cognitive components; the impact of selected federal and local programs; housing services; the role of families in caring for frail elderly; and, ethnicity and aging with a special emphasis on service utilization by both elders and caregivers. This straightforward, readable book will be extremely valuable to social workers, case managers, home health nurses, and a variety of other home and community-based workers. Recommended for undergraduate and beginning graduate students. L. A. Baumhover; University of Alabama
