This bibliography is not intended to be comprehensive but concentrates on those sources most accessible to undergraduate and beginning graduate students. Its up-to-date entries of materials from the second through sixth centuries cite reference works, general works, and collections. The general works section is alphabetically subdivided by subject from "Art and Architecture" to "Worship and Liturgy," with further subdivisions under most subjects. Within each subdivision, the well-annotated entries are alphabetical by author. These divisions make it easy for the reader to find entries on subjects of interest. A helpful feature not found in many bibliographies is a set of symbols that indicate the nature of many of the entries (general works, summary articles, and sourcebooks). Also valuable are listings of major book reviews under many of the entries--enabling the beginning student to weigh the value of the sources--and succinct introductions to each section of the bibliography. The bibliography is well done in every way and will be of great value to upper-division undergraduate and beginning graduate students, particularly those with little knowledge of foreign languages.
