Brody, who died in 1988, spent much of his professional life at the National University of Mexico, and is known principally for his work in statistical and computational aspects of physics. This book contains chapters of an unfinished work and various essays on topics in the philosophy of physics. Unfortunately, it does not reflect the last decade of his work in the philosophy of science, in which the epistemology of experiment and many of Brody's other suggestions are discussed and developed. His reactions and criticisms seem dated for this reason, although still giving the reader valuable insight into some of the alternate interpretations of physics that he advocated. His discussion of Bell's inequality is thorough and original but, of course, without any consideration of recent major experimental results or reinterpretations of theory. Many essays overlap in content, having been written independently and for different purposes. This compilation is a fitting monument to a highly original and scientifically competent, if not mainstream, thinker in the foundations of physics. Appropriate for libraries in major research universities. Upper-division undergraduate through faculty. J. L. McKnight; College of William and Mary
