Description
Summary:Text in German and Albanian. The Slavonic immigration to the Balkans in the sixth to eighth century meant that the entire Northern Peninsula became Slavonic speaking. Since World War II the work of Albanian scholars has made it possible to trace hitherto unobserved Slavonic loan words in the Albanian language. This monograph catalogues these slavisms in a number of semantic groups, covering agriculture, material culture, plants, animals, surrounding nature, the human body, social relations and the inner life of humans. Slavisms, with a few exceptions, are not loans from a scholarly culture of the Slavonic neighbours, who formerly dominated the Albanians politically as well as socially. The origin of the loans in respectively Eastbalkan (Bulgarian-Macedonian) and Westbalkan (Serbian) can sometimes be traced. The total number of slavisms observers is around 1000.
