The 14 essays in this edited volume are addressed to profeminist and pro-gay social scientists working at the cutting edge of postmodern deconstructionist ideas about male gender and sexuality. The one female and 13 male contributors are American, British, and Canadian feminist scholars who oppose the mythopoetic "Iron John" weekend-warrior men's movement associated with Robert Bly. They advocate, instead, keeping the emerging theoretical discipline of men's studies and its practical applications within the context of a feminist critique of male hegemony over women, within the context of a neo-Marxist analysis of class conflicts, within a civil rights context of racial minorities' critiques of white racism, within a neo-psychoanalytic analysis of conscious and unconscious mental processes, and within a large-scale sociological analysis of structure and dynamic properties of social processes. Primarily for graduate students, social change activists, and faculty dealing with issues of gender and sexuality. R. W. Smith; California State University, Northridge
